THE UNIT

What Is Created Within Bead Impact Art

A Unit is the primary artistic form of Bead Impact Art.

It comes into being when an Acting Person performs a real human act and fixes one bead to a Carrier in accordance with the Codex and The Unit Method.

The Unit brings together the fundamental elements of Bead Impact Art: the Acting Person, the bead, the Carrier, the purpose of the action, and the material fact of the act itself.

The purpose of the action determines the Door through which the Unit enters Bead Impact Art.

The Carrier may be created for the Unit, adopted as an existing material basis, or entered through a conscious relation with what it already carries.

The Unit begins with one bead.

One bead is enough because one real act is enough to change the Carrier and establish a material fact.

If the action continues, each additional bead is taken and fixed separately. Each becomes another distinct act within the same Unit and receives its own position in relation to what is already present.

A Unit may therefore consist of one act or continue through many acts. It may be created by one person, shared by many people, continued across generations, or developed over an extended period of time.

Its identity is not determined by the number of beads, by technical complexity, or by the construction of an image. It is determined by the purpose of the action and by the real material acts through which that purpose enters reality.

A Unit is complete when further action is no longer necessary.

Every completed Unit receives its individual Unit number and enters the continuing sequence of Units within Bead Impact Art.

The foundational Unit is Unit 001 — Point of Light, through which Bead Impact Art emerged as a field of contemporary art.
